Why Essential Oils? I say - Why Not?
I follow someone on Facebook who promotes essential oils as an alternative to common medications, and helps with a multitude of health conditions. From the week before Thanksgiving til after Christmas, I battled some kind of nasty cold that refused to go away, so I took the bait and tried the oils. She sent me On Guard oil blend for immune boosting, Slim & Sassy for weight loss/metabolic support, and Deep Blue rub, for what I dub "Mystery Pain."
I was skeptical about all three but wanted to try something, especially for the cold that refused to leave me. I started adding a drop of the On Guard to my water to drink. I put a drop on my hands, rubbed them together and inhaled the aroma. I did this several times a day for a few days. My "cold from Hades" finally departed after only 3 days. I kept up the routine until the sample was gone. (The sample bottle contained about 20 or so drops). It made a believer out of me. At least for the On Guard.
Slim & Sassy I haven't honestly been as diligent about using. I did add a few drops to my water, and it added a nice refreshing taste to the otherwise bland liquid. I seem to drink more water when it tastes good. It also helped with the constant bloated feeling I had day in and day out.
Besides drinking more water, an added bonus for the Slim & Sassy - it contains peppermint, which is known to help with heartburn. I was having a hard time with heartburn one day and not getting any relief from the usual Tums, Pepto, or phasyme. I remembered that the Slim & Sassy had peppermint so I gave it a try. I put one drop on my tongue and drank some water. It worked! For the first time that day I had relief!
And finally, the Deep Blue rub. My "Mystery Pain" is pain that shows up for no apparent reason. I get random spots that are hyper sensitive - and extremely painful. One of the spots showed up on the back of my knee. Not a good place when you sit at a desk all day every day. I put on a small dab of this cream, and the pain went away after just a few minutes. Warmed up like Icy Hot, felt (and smelled) like Ben Gay (wintergreen), but penetrated the pain like Tiger Balm. Wonderful!
I started reading various blogs, posts, Pins across the web. I settled on a post/blog about something called "The Allergy Bomb", which is 2 drops peppermint, 2 drops lavender and 2 drops lemon inside a gelatin capsule (or veggie cap for the vegans). I ordered an Intro pack, and I have not looked back. Since taking these "bombs", I have not needed my precription allergy pills, nor have I had a need for my inhaler. My case may not be typical. But it worked for me and that is important to me.
I will be receiving more oils soon, and I look forward to putting them all to good, proper use in my life. There is no cure-all for everything in life, but if I can get myself and family off many of the chemicals we put in our body everyday... then we will all benefit.
