I have dry skin.
Really, dry skin. So dry, in fact, that conventional cleansers only strip away what little moisture I have on my face. I sometimes feel like my face is under shrink-wrap just from rinsing with water. Yes, that dry.
Since I started using doTERRA essential oils, I have tried a variety of mixes to help with the dry skin, and I have finally concocted a mix that works really well for me.
I call it... Face Elixir. (Fancy, yes, I know!)
It is a trial and error type recipe, but the end result makes my skin super soft, supple, and best of all, not "my-face-will-crack-if-I-smile" dry. I started out using a mix of Frankincense, Myrrh and FCO, but it just wasn't moisturizing enough, or lasting throughout the day for me. So I started adding a little of this and blending with a little of that, and below is what I came up with that finally worked:
The ingredients I used:
1/4 cup Shea Nut Oil (I used Life-Flo brand from Whole Foods)
3/4 cup Coconut Oil (I used Nature's Way from Whole Foods)
5 drops Juniper Berry
5 drops Cedarwood
5 drops Cypress
5 drops Patchouli
5 drops Helichrysum
5 drops Ylang Ylang
5 drops Myrrh
5 drops Frankincense
3 drops Geranium (only 3 because it is a STRONG smell)
3/4 Tbsp Beeswax (optional)
Glass Bowl for mixing
Glass jar with lid for storing
In a glass bowl, I mixed the Shea Nut oil and Coconut oil together until the coconut oil melted, and they were well-blended. I then added all the essential oils - you can choose to use more or less and pick and choose whichever ones you prefer - this is an very oily mix. Cover and place in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to cool.
Once cooled, take bowl out of the refrigerator and mix with hand mixer for 3-5 minutes. The mixture should whip up white and fluffy. This makes quite a bit of face elixir, so you will likely have lots left over after filling up your glass container. I keep my extra in the fridge. (Note: it gets solid when kept in the fridge).
For the mix I use every day, I put just enough of my elixir mix to fill a small 4 oz glass jar with lid. I also added 1/2 Tbsp of melted beeswax to jar and stirred. It developed a soft solid layer across the top, but my mix stays liquid.
A thought I had this morning is to get a glass pump bottle and fill it with the elixir, and leave out the beeswax.
To use: I dip the pad of my finger in to the elixir and dab on my face, then lightly rub in to my skin. A little bit goes a long way.
My face stays hydrated and soft all day. I use a little more at night before I go to bed, and just let my skin drink in the oils.
